UKZN Celebrates 30 Years of African Music and Dance with Special Lunch Hour Concert
Durban, KwaZulu-Natal | 12th October 2026
The University of KwaZulu-Natal’s School of Arts (Music) and African Music Project will celebrate 30 years of African Music and Dance (AMD) with a special AMD@30 Lunch Hour Concert on Monday, 12 October 2026, at the Howard College Theatre.
Presented under the theme Iminyaka Engu-30: Sigubha Amagugu, Sakha Ikusasa (30 Years: Celebrating Heritage, Building the Future), the concert will showcase performances by AMD students in the Performance Skills modules from Foundation to Third Year level. Through music, dance, storytelling and praise poetry, students will honour the programme’s rich legacy while reflecting on its continued growth and relevance.
The performance highlights three decades of artistic excellence, cultural preservation and creative innovation, celebrating the many educators, artists, alumni and students who have contributed to the success of the AMD programme since its establishment.
Directed by Thabiso Zondo, Matshitshi Ngema and Mfundiseni Ndwalane, the concert promises an energetic and inspiring lunchtime celebration of African performance traditions and contemporary expression.
Members of the public, staff, students and alumni are warmly invited to attend.
