Jazz lecturer and musician Mr Sibusiso Mashiloane’s fourth album Amanzi Nemifula – Umkhuleko has been nominated in numerous categories for the upcoming Mzantsi Jazz Awards and the South African Music Awards (SAMAs).

His nominations for the Mzantsi Jazz Awards are for Best Jazz Album – Umkhuleko; Best Jazz Song – Tugela;  Best Traditional Jazz Album – Amanzi Nemifula: Umkhuleko and for Best Jazz Male Artist

He has been nominated for the SAMA Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year and Best Jazz Album.

Mashiloane uses everything around him as inspiration to continually undertake amazing projects. He said that he is not moved by changing trends in the music industry, but regards himself as an artist that continues to give his listeners food for the soul with every album.

‘I was not expecting these nominations; it points to the shift that is happening in the entertainment industry. It is about time that all genres are acknowledged. That my album is acknowledged is very exciting and gives me more motivation to create and continue to inspire my students to be true to themselves and create meaningful music,’ he said.

Apart from his musical aspirations, Mashiloane plans to continue to pursue his goal to help grow talent from a firm foundation of African roots by lecturing at UKZN and the Durban Music School.

The Mzantsi Jazz Awards will take place on 29 August. To vote for Mashiloane, SMS the following codes individually (BJ3), (BS1) to 40439.
