Paras, live at the Centre for Jazz & Popular Music

Press release:

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents Paras on Wednesday, 12 October 2022 at 18:00.

Siphamandla Dlamini better known as Paras in the music scene was born and raised in KwaMashu and Ulundi in Kwa-Zulu Natal. He discovered his talent while growing up as a church boy at Ulundi. He learnt to play drums and sung. His influences include genres like kwaito, african jazz, r’n b soul music and maskandi. Paras started growing up musically even more after moving to Durban full time. He started playing and sharing big stages with the likes of Joyous Celebration, Nqubeko Mbatha, Vuyo Mokoena, Judith Sephuma, Swazi Dlamini, Kelly Khumalo, VukaAfrika, and Nduduzo Makhathini.

In 2010, Paras’s career changed when he presented his first show as a Drummer and Vocalist. This also began his song-writing career . Since then, he never looked back as he was still looking for his original sound as an emerging artist then. In 2012/13, Paras developed his sound which he calls Ubuntu Soul Africa (world music). He met the jazz maestro, Themba Mkhize and after just a few months, he moved to Johannesburg to stay with Mr Mkhize. He then started recording a jazz album produced by both Themba Mkhize and Nduduzo Makhathini.

A life changing experience was in 2017 when Paras joined D j Tira’s record label, AFROTAINMENT. He worked along-side a highly profiled producers Prince Bulo and CostaDollar on a collaborative album Afro Summer 2017 by Ezase-Afro. He also made an appearance on several platforms including SABC 1’s YoTv and Metro FM performing live along-side D jTira, Prince Bulo and Tipcee. Paras believes in being a versatile musician to survive especially in S.A.
