Music Unlocked Sessions 10 June 2020

Music Unlocked Sessions continues efforts to support South African Musicians

Centre for Jazz and Popular Music and iSupport Creative Business in proud association with Casio as per every weekly concerts, once again presenting three musicians as part of their 9th online concert taking place on Wednesday 3 June.  This coming week’s edition will feature singer, guitarist and on-screen actor Gavin Ferguson (DBN), singer-songwriter Adri Maryke (BFN) and soul singer with an acoustic guitar Lwazi (DBN). All three artists will present the audience with a 20-minute set each.

The Artists

Gavin Ferguson incorporates covers as well as originals. Gavin enjoys reading a crowd and interacting to create a bond with the people he performs to and makes their experience a pleasant one. Gavin determines his success not by how well he sings or plays the guitar, but by how he makes people feel on the day.

Lwazi is a soulful singer and acoustic guitarist from Durban South Africa. A self-taught guitarist with a passion for music, culture, business innovation and technology. House music fans appreciate her for her vocal skills on songs like Uthando with Betasweet and Kind of love as well as Get to know me with DJ Merlon. Her most recent product offering is her debut single Indlukulu with songs like Ganga Ngami and Umanginawe which are well received on radio stations throughout the country.

Adri Maryke has been making music since she was a little girl growing up in the home of a music teacher mom. As a member of play casts, choirs and percussion orchestras from a young age, her stage-performance career started early. As a member of the Guitar Duo AMPS and the MangaRimba marimba band, Adri’s instrumental performances on classical guitar, marimba, piano and even organ have been recorded on CD and DVD as early as 2014. Her latest album, Tree Music, is a compilation of pieces incorporating sounds and symbolism inspired by the teachings of the Universal Kabbalah. Her first performance as a member of a small group, Ballads from the British Isles, was undertaken in 2018, after which her first solo performance took place in 2019, titled Tree Music. Adri’s original music, inspired by the folk music traditions of the Celts, Vikings and Native Americans, is a mixture of meditative, contemplative poetry-based pieces. She also likes to perform light music from a variety of styles for fun, throwing in one or two folk style pieces in different languages.

The minimum charge to watch the concert is R40 and tickets are available on Webtickets. The full contribution of the audience will go straight to the artists to support and sustain South Africa’s beloved musicians through this testing time

Musicians can submit a video that is created especially for the concert, which is likely to be a solo performance or minimal ensemble in this period of social distance. You can also submit previously recorded videos that are not widely available on the internet, and are part of your archive.

Get your ticket on www.webtickets.co.za where you can also get a monthly concert pass and donate.
