Music Unlocked Session 24 June Dane Francis, Duo di Pianoforte and Gareth Harvey
Centre for Jazz and Popular Music and iSupport Creative Business in proud association with Casio present the Music Unlocked Sessions. 24 June’s edition will feature guitarist Dane Francis, piano duo from Makhanda (Grahamstown) Duo di Pianoforte and saxophonist Gareth Harvey . All three artists will present the audience with a 20-minute set each.

The ensemble focuses on works composed for piano four hands and compositions written for two pianos. Garreth Robertson continues to study while working as a chamber music supervisor, vocal coach, and accompanist at Rhodes University. Tamsyn Hanslo is working full time as a Music Teacher at Victoria Primary for Girls and is currently completing her Masters in Performance at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape.
Gareth Harvey is a freelance multi-instrumentalist, arranger/composer and educator in Cape Town who has performed throughout South Africa and Internationally with various bands, theatre groups and orchestras. Gareth is a graduate in music performance and musicology from the University of Stellenbosch and holds a performance Licentiate through Trinity Guildhall London. Artists he has worked with include: The Johnny Cooper Orchestra, Mike Perry, Frank Paco, Gerald Clarke, Hemel Besem, Bernice Boikanyo and McCoy Mrubata. He has been active in the hotel industry performing at 5-star hotels in Cape Town and around South Africa including the One&Only and the Cullinan Hotel in Cape Town, The Michelangelo in Johannesburg, and Sun City. Gareth has been an active member in various groups including SAMA award winning Afro pop group Native Young, electro swing band Pravda and jazz fusion saxophone quartet SAXIT! who have performed at a number of festivals including the National Arts Festival and Joy of Jazz in Johannesburg. Gareth has worked for many years in education and has taught at various school at both primary and high school level including the internationally renowned Jazz Workshop school of Music founded by highly acclaimed and influential musician and educator Merton Barrow. Currently, Gareth is a member of prominent gypsy rock group Crimson House, and is a resident performer at the Ritz-Carlton luxury hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Dane Francis is now a well-recognised local and international artist who is a passionate, talented and skilled musician. His love for music allows him to be skilled in playing and teaching all instruments. He currently teaches music at Trinityhouse Palm Lakes and is the Founder of the Dane Francis Music and Production school. Dane Francis studied Jazz and Popular music at the University of KwaZulu Natal. His expertise and skill is best demonstrated when he is performing on stage entertaining the crowds. Dane has performed for King Zwelitini & the President at the opening of the King Shaka airport. Although Dane is skilled in most instruments, he has worked hard to become an excellent guitarist. He has shared the stage with many local artists including Judith Sephuma and Swazi Dlamini. Dane Francis also recently played for award winner Zoe Modiga & Brenda Mtambo at the 2018 Mbokodo awards. Dane has played in some of the best hotels in the Middle East over the past few years including, Intercontinental Regency Bahrain, Hilton Abu Dabhi, Intercontinental Dohar Qatar, Danat Hotel and Resort Al Ain and the Millenium Airport Hotel Dubai.
