Soultee Sisters + Rico Baumann — Live at UKZN Jazz Centre \n\n\n\nThe Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents a beautiful collaborations\, ‘Echoes of Marabi’ (SA-Swiss collab) with Yonela Mnana and Benedikt Reising (CH) featuring the Soultee Sisters (vocals) & Rico Baumann (drums)  live at UKZN Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on Wednesday 30 September 2026 at 17:30. \n\n\n\nOne of the longest lasting relationships with South African jazz\, has been that with Switzerland. Musicians from both countries connecting over years. The latest project is an astoundingly beautiful and unique duo album titled Echoes of Marabi\, a project featuring South African pianist Yonela Mnana and Swiss saxophonist Benedikt Reising. It is an album that celebrates their connection and friendship. They are joined by the dynamic voices of the Soultee Sisters from Katlehong. The album was released in September 2025. \n\n\n\nReising is no stranger to the South African music landscape\, having been part of several projects and tours there and Mnana is well established as a pianist\, known for his powerful voice and compositions. The duo first met via South African trumpeter Mandla Mlangeni\, while touring in 2018 with a Swiss-SA project called The Mill. The pair’s relationship was strengthened upon promoting that album in Europe in 2019 when both Mnana and Reising were based in Bern. The performance draws on Swati and Zulu cultural narratives\, contemporary jazz and original compositions to tell stories of identity\, heritage\, love\, resilience and community. \n\n\n\nThe project also confronts urgent social realities\, including gender-based violence\, using music as a space for reflection\, dialogue and healing. Alongside these challenging narratives are stories of love and human connection — celebrating the resilience and humanity that continue to bind communities together. \n\n\n\nFor Zoe the Seed\, the project is about more than performing music. DESCRIPTION:Press Release \n\n\n\nDurban\, KwaZulu-Natal — The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM) presents Twosday: Jazz and Poetry Offering\, featuring award-winning South African performance poet and author Thandiwe Nqanda\, on Tuesday\, 13 October 2026 at 17:30. \n\n\n\nNqanda brings her distinctive fusion of poetry\, jazz and live storytelling to the stage in an immersive performance exploring memory\, loss\, love\, healing and spiritual reflection. Rooted in personal and collective remembrance\, her work gives voice to experiences that are often left unspoken\, creating space for audiences to reflect\, remember and connect. \n\n\n\nThe performance forms part of CJPM’s Twosday series\, a platform that encourages artistic exchange and collaboration across disciplines. By blending musical styles and disciplines—in this case\, poetry and jazz—Twosday encourages cross-genre collaboration and creates innovative performances that push the boundaries of the traditional concert experience. \n\n\n\nNqanda is the author of the debut poetry collection No\, Time To Mourn (2023). Her work has featured at major literary and arts platforms including the Open Book Festival\, National Arts Festival and Poetry Africa\, while her poem “the mourners” was published in New Contrast in 2024. She also co-wrote the theatrical production Grieve\, That Is How You Survive\, which premiered at the National Arts Festival in 2023. \n\n\n\nHer engagement with jazz includes the musical poetry show IT IS TIME and collaborations with jazz musicians including Kujenga\, Vuyo Viwe and the Guftahs. \n\n\n\nFor this Durban performance\, Nqanda will be joined by Makgashule Thothela on piano\, Zolile Mgqantsa on bass and Bayanda Msomi on drums\, with Thando Fuze appearing as guest poet. \n\n\n\nFuze is a Durban-born poet\, performer\, writer\, curator and cultural activist whose work explores identity\, gender\, sexuality and contemporary social experience. DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music (CJPM) proudly presents accomplished South African singer\, songwriter and recording artist Njabuloseh\, who will bring his distinctive blend of South African jazz  and Soul and to the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on Wednesday\, 14 October 2026 at 17:30. \n\n\n\nThe performance\, titled Brand Nu Old Skool\, promises an evening of soulful melodies\, jazz-inspired musicianship and contemporary African sounds\, as Njabuloseh presents a performance centred around his acclaimed 11-track album of the same name. \n\n\n\nReleased in 2020\, Brand Nu Old Skool showcases Njabuloseh’s distinctive musical voice and his ability to draw from the rich traditions of soul\, jazz and contemporary African music.
