Please join us for Harmonies of Heritage – Imvunge Yobugugu , A Cultural Celebration Concert to Commemorate Human Rights Day 2024

The University of KwaZulu-Natal African Music and Dance Program proudly announces a collaboration concert, “Harmonies of Heritage – Imvunge Yobugugu.” A Cultural Celebration Concert, set to take place on March 18, 2024, at the Howard College Theatre.

This captivating event, hosted by the UKZN African Music Project, will feature collaboration between the UKZN African Music Ensembles with the University of Fort Hare Umgidi Marimba Ensemble and the University of Zululand Choir. Together, they will unite in a powerful display of African song, dance, and indigenous instruments. There will also be guest appearance by the newly established 2024 edition of IKUSASA LETHU – UKZN African Music and Dance touring ensemble.

As South Africa approaches Human Rights Day, this concert serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of both human and cultural rights. Through the performance of cultural heritage materials, attendees will embark on a journey celebrating the rich diversity of African culture, and the fundamental rights that unite us all. The concert finale piece – “Sikhuthaza amalungelo esintu ngokusebenza ngokubambisana” “Promoting Human Rights through partnerships and working together”

“We are thrilled to present ‘Harmonies of Heritage – Imvunge Yobugugu,’ a concert that not only showcases the immense talent of our students but also honors the cultural diversity and rights that are integral to our society,” said Dr. Patricia Opondo, Director of the UKZN African Music and Dance Program and Curator of the concert. “This event is a testament to the power of music and dance to bridge divides and foster unity.”

Date and Time: Monday, 18th March, 2024 at 12:10 – 1:05pm

Venue: University of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College Theatre.

Admission: FREE – all are welcome to attend. This is a family-friendly concert.
