Dear Music friends

The University of Kwa-Zulu Natal School of Arts (Music) proudly presents Practical Studies 3A (MUSC342) and African Music and Dance 3A (MUSC3AA) FREE LUNCH HOUR CONCERT on  Monday the 11th  of March themed LOVE and HONOUR at 12:10 at Howard College Theatre.

Please join Nelisiwe Majola and Khanyisile Maphalala as they present a programme which includes instrumental, Dance and vocal pieces. Expect to hear maskanda gospel and UMakweyana Bow with a piece inspired by the late great Bavikile Ngema and the Mbira instrument which is a family of musical instruments, traditional to Shona people of Zimbabwe.

The theme of the concert Love and Honor is about the love of African music. Some of the highlights of the programme are the Kuku dance , which is a women’s dance performed in a circle. Originally kuku dance was played when women come back from fishing. They would take their fishing tools, net and dance.

The song “uyamemeza okandaba uyinkosi yohlanga” is a vocal song that inspires the spirit of togetherness. The programme closes of with Ngoma dance Ingoma dance is performed by boys and girls without drums. Girls wear woolen skirts and are usually bare chested. Ingoma evolved out of the profound transformation of traditional rural culture through misery. Ingoma always give love and peace to people’s lives. The choreography is by Nelisiwe.

Biographies

Nelisiwe Majola who grow up kwa bester. I was born on September 10 2002, in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa.  I started school at Ekuthuleni primary. Then enrolled at JG Zuma high school. Where I fell in love with arts. I first joined ingoma girls where we will go to compete with other schools. Also joined a school choir. In grade 10 I choose to do arts . That where the love of art become stronger. I than entered university if KwaZulu-Natal Howard College for a bachelor of art in music.

Khanyisile Charity Maphalala 25 years (born in 25 may 1999). Born in Bergville at langkfloof. I studied my primary school at langkfloof and my high school at amangwane high school. I’m studying at university of KwaZulu-Natal Howard College doing my fourth year in bachelor of arts in music.
