SUMMARY:Nduduzo Makhathini Sacred Concerts feat Linda Sikhakhane
DESCRIPTION:Press release: \n\n\n\nThe Centre for Jazz and Popular Music proudly presents Nduduzo Makhathini Sacred Concerts featuring Linda Sikhakhane on Wednesday 18 March 2026 at 17:30. \n\n\n\nSacred Concerts is a new ‘sound strategy’ that Improvisor and scholar Nduduzo Makhathini is embarking on. This follows from his various projects seeking to align sounds with context(s). Makhathini believes that sounds possess ‘spiritual significance’. As such\, this concert is focused on various types of ‘sacred’ music that stems out of indigenous cultural (and religious) systems that influence Makhathini’s musicality. \n\n\n\nFor the inauguration he invites his collaborator and saxophonist Linda Sikhakhane to explore what ‘sacredness’ might look and sound like when approached from an improvisation standpoint and with some ‘jazz’ sensibility. \n\n\n\nDr Nduduzo Makhathini: \n\n\n\nSince making his international debut for Blue Note in 2020 with Modes of Communication: Letters From the Underworlds\, the South African pianist and composer Nduduzo Makhathini has earned widespread acclaim for the genuinely spiritual transcendence of his music. \n\n\n\nHis music explores themes of African spirituality\, colonial history\, cultural identity\, and healing\, while promoting hope\, balance\, and freedom for humanity. \n\n\n\n\nEvent details \n\n\n\nNduduzo Makhathini Sacred Concerts feat Linda Sikhakhane \n\n\n\nWednesday 18 March 2026 \n\n\n\nDoors Open: 17:30 \n\n\n\nTime: 18:00 – 20:00 \n\n\n\nVenue: Centre for Jazz and Popular Music\, UKZN \n\n\n\nHoward College Campus\, Dennis Shepstone Building\, Level 2\, Durban \n\n\n\nTickets at webtickets https://www.webtickets.co.za/v2/event.aspx?itemid=1590292149 \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nR130 (General Admission) R100 (Pensioners) R70 (Students with valid student card) Or cash at the door if not sold out
